Ride classifications

By default, all OCC rides are "No-Drop." These rides are structured to keep the group together, with ride leaders designating regroup points along the route so faster riders can wait for others to catch up. When a sweep is assigned, the sweeper rides at the back to ensure no one is left behind.

At their discretion, a Ride Leader may designate a ride as a "Drop" ride. Drop rides are assigned a Pace Level based on the following classifications:

Vigorous
19+ mph
Brisk
Pace Level*
Moderate
Classification
Steady
12-14 mph
Leisurely
16-18 mph
14-16 mph
10-12 mph
* Pace classification indicates the intended range of speeds on level ground without breaks. This means downhill sections of the ride may be faster, and uphill sections slower.

On Drop rides with a sweep, the sweeper maintains the designated pace level and will drop any riders who fall behind. Riders who wish to join a Drop ride but are concerned about keeping up are encouraged to load the navigation route onto their device so they can complete the ride at their own pace, if needed.
